Gesamtmasche / ETGAMA, Ethiopia

The objective of the planned project is to establish ETGAMA as a pro-active and competent sector association, to improve the cooperation along the textile supply chain and to strengthen the competitiveness of member companies of ETGAMA. The project strives to support Ethiopia to improve the competitiveness of the enterprises of the textile industry and to increase the employment ratey by strengthening of the organized private sector of the textile and garment sector and by a better integration of the local textile value chain. The establishment and extension of the textile and garment industries and with it the growth of employment for low qualified labor is mainly advanced by location of foreign enterprises in the newly established industrial parks. The development of local value chains with utilization of home-grown cotton proceeds slowly, however, as productivity and quality of Ethiopian cotton production is not matching international standards and thus export oriented textile manufacturing is using imported cotton.
