Export promotion is crucial for Ghana, as it drives economic growth, diversifies the economy, and reduces dependence on a limited number of raw materials. At the same time, SMEs face significant challenges that affect their export potential: many SMEs lack the necessary skills, resources, and networks to effectively enter international markets.
The GIZ-funded project "Promoting Ghanaian Export Companies" within the program "Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness (AgriBiz)" aims to address these challenges through targeted support in skills development and by creating connections between Ghanaian SMEs and potential European partners. The targeted support is based on the needs and level of maturity of the companies and comes in the form of various coaching sessions (among others sales and communication). Additionally, a study trip, including visits to importers, is part of the project.
The SMEs come from different parts of Ghana and offer a wide range of products like mangoes, pineapples, and sweet potatoes. Highlights of the project include visits by a group of SMEs to trade fairs "Fruit Logistica" in Berlin and "Biofach" in Nuremberg.
