Vocational Education and Training

Ethiopia: Training and mobility of skilled workers

The Bauverbaende NRW (NRW construction associations) support their Ethiopian partners from the construction industry in preparing young people for the needs of national and international labour markets in the construction sector. Training systems and courses are being developed, women in the sector are receiving targeted support and skilled workers are being prepared for potential employment in Germany.

The vocational training partnership (BBP) started in December 2024. The following project goals are being pursued so that the Ethiopian partners can prepare the young people in a targeted manner:

  1. A selected vocational training centre shall be enabled to carry out training and further education courses in ‘Pipeline-based supply and disposal’ geared to the needs of the economy and to specifically target women.
  2. The Ethiopian partners are working with political decision-makers to develop a concept for a dual training system financed jointly by the state and the private sector.
  3. A selected partner institution will be enabled to prepare Ethiopian trainees and job-seeking skilled workers from the construction sector for possible labour migration to Germany.

The BBP is funded as part of Partners in Transformation of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
